I am proud to announce that I was selected to be a part of the first Design jury in the prestigeous Eurobest competition. More info will follow in the press and on the Eurobest homepage. The deadline to submit to the competition is 26th of September 2008.
Kampanje has posted a story on the three Norwegians juding in the various categories (in Norwegian).

Xploding Plastix just released Treated Timber Resists Rot on Beatservice. Run out and buy it, and not because I made the cover, but because it’s a great album.
I know Platekompaniet has physical copies.

For the first time Cannes Lions are includinga a Design category: Cannes Design Lions. I was very pleased to discover that Ringnes Sommerøl has been shortlisted in the category B02 Alcoholic Drinks. Winners are announced tomorrow, but the even being shortlisted is a great honor.

Just as I came back from Stockholm, I found out that I won Silver in the category Packaging Design at the Retailprisen 07 ceremony that was held last friday. Retailprisen is a Norwegian retail competition. A pleasant surprise, I must say. Congratulations to the rest of the team (project manager and consultant) and the client Ringnes.

The ED-Conference was great and on top I won an award in the Brand Application category at the ED-Awards. It was great being there with the whole team from Scandinavian Design Group. Scandinavian Design Group also got a merit in the CD/DVD-cover category. Apart from us, Halvor Bodin represented Norway with a merit in the illustration category. Congratulations to all the winners.

Friday 25th was the 15th edition of the Visuelt Awards. It is considered the most important award for graphic design and illustration in Norway. I am happy to say that I got two nominations and a silver. Also Scandinavian Design Group got several nominations and a couple of golds. All in all a great night. I would also like to congratulate all the others who got awards for their great work. Next stop Stockholm.
Update: slideshow of the winners on the Visuelt pages and Dagbladet

Day two was also great with Fred Deakin and Nat Hunter from Airside, Erik Kessels from KesselsKramer, Kjell Ekhorn from Non-Format and Adam Burke from Pixar. The animated movie Peter and the Wolf was shown in Roberto Bagatti’s slot, and while I would have preferred Roberto, the movie was a great piece of animation. All in all a great couple of days. I was asked to name a favourite from the lectures by someone, but I must say that it’s really hard as it was a really good program.

First day of Visuelt 08 is over. The lectures were great, as was the Visuelt Screening curated by Rune Spaans and Franck Aubry. The first lecture was by Jonathan Harris, giving some insight into his various projects. Next up was Arnt from Øyafestivalen. He talked about the festival’s focus on environment and how they’d always focused on design. I actually managed to come in late and miss the part where he talked about me and the era when I did the design for them, but I’ve been told he said nice things. Maira Kalman, who I’d already seen at the AIGA Next conference in Denver last October, was great once again. She has an incredible humour and wit, and such great work. Check out one of her speeches at Ted. Finally Rick Poynor offered some words of wisdom. I wish they’d put him on a little earlier when the energy level was higher though. Tomorrow looks great too, even though my friend and ex-colleague from MTV Roberto Bagatti had to cancel.
